Puzzle Party
Privacy Policy
Last updated June 19, 2026
Puzzle Party (“Puzzle Party,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is built to need as little of your information as possible. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no advertising. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Puzzle Party, you agree to this Policy and to our Terms of Service.
What we collect
- Display name and color. When you join a room you pick a name. It is stored on your device and shared with the people in your room so they can see who is solving with them.
- Game state. The letters typed into a shared puzzle, your cursor position while you play, and the room's puzzle are stored so everyone in the room sees the same board and late joiners can catch up.
- Preferences. Settings like autocheck are stored only on your device.
- Basic technical and usage data. Like most websites and apps, our hosting providers and analytics automatically process limited technical information — such as approximate region, device and browser type, and aggregate usage events — to keep the Service running, secure, and improving.
What we don't collect
No email addresses (unless you choose to email us), no passwords, no contacts, no precise location, no advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking for advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Analytics
On the web, we may use privacy-respecting analytics (such as Google Tag Manager and the tools it loads) to understand aggregate usage — for example, how many people start a puzzle. This helps us improve the Service. The native app does not load remote analytics scripts. You can further limit analytics with your browser settings or content blockers.
How we use information
We use the limited information above only to: operate multiplayer rooms and sync the shared grid; remember your on-device preferences; keep the Service secure and prevent abuse; understand aggregate usage; and comply with law. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles.
Where data lives
Real-time game state is processed and stored with our hosting providers (such as Vercel and Supabase) solely to make multiplayer work. These providers act as our service providers under our instructions. Room contents are plain puzzle data — please don't type personal information into a crossword grid.
Sharing a room
Anyone who has a room link can join that room and see the display names and play activity inside it. Share links only with people you want to play with.
Legal disclosures
We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is required to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms; to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Puzzle Party, our users, or the public.
Data retention and security
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above; room contents expire from our systems over time. We take reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk as described in our Terms.
Your choices and rights
Because we don't hold accounts or contact details, the simplest controls are in your hands: clearing the app's website data (or deleting the app) removes your device-stored name and settings. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to opt out of certain processing. To make a request — or to have a specific room removed sooner — contact us with the relevant details and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Children
Puzzle Party does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the age required by your local law). There are no accounts and no profile data beyond the display name you choose. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Puzzle Party is operated from the United States, and information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions with different data-protection rules than your own.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and material changes may be communicated through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
Governing law
This Policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any disputes relating to it are subject to the dispute-resolution terms (including arbitration) in our Terms of Service.
